Zelenski responded to the threat to Mariupol

The elimination of the last trapped Ukrainian troops in the besieged port of Mariupol will end talks with Moscow, President Vladimir Zelensky said on Saturday.

“The liquidation of our troops, of our people (in Mariupol), will put an end to all negotiations” between Ukraine and Russia, Zelensky said in an interview with the Ukrainian Pravda news website. “This will be a dead-end, as we are not negotiating for our territories or our people.”

Earlier in the day, DNR leader Denis Pushilin said Ukrainian forces that refused to surrender in Mariupol would be liquidated.

On Thursday, Russian military spokesman Igor Konashenkov said the number of Ukrainian soldiers surrendered so far in Mariupol had reached 1,160.

The strategic port of Mariupol is among the worst affected after Russia invaded Ukraine on February 24th.
