Ukraine can win the war with Russia if it has good equipment, said US Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin after a joint visit to Kyiv with Secretary of State Anthony Blinkon, AFP reported.
“The first thing to win is to believe that you can win,” Austin told the media after returning to Poland. “And they are convinced they can win,” he added, referring to the Ukrainians.
“They can win if they have good equipment, strong support,” he added.
“We want to see Russia weakened to such an extent that it can no longer do things like the invasion of Ukraine,” Austin told the media after he visited Kyiv. “She has already lost a lot of military capabilities and, to be honest, a lot of troops, and we don’t want her to be able to regain her abilities quickly.”
Russia is failing to achieve its military goals in Ukraine, and Kyiv is succeeding, US Secretary of State Anthony Blinkon told the media, quoted by the Associated Press. He cited the withdrawal of Russian troops from Kyiv to focus on Donbas.
The Ukrainian presidency published a recording of the meeting between Blinkon and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. In it, the Secretary of State praised “the extraordinary courage, leadership, and success you have achieved in repelling this terrible Russian aggression.”
“We’re used to seeing you on tape around the world, but it’s wonderful, it’s nice to meet you in person,” Blinkon added.
Russia has sent a note to the United States calling for an end to US arms supplies to Ukraine
Moscow has sent a note to Washington demanding an end to US arms supplies to Ukraine, Russian Ambassador to the United States Anatoly Antonov was quoted as saying by TASS.
“$ 800 million is the value of the weapons that will be delivered to Kyiv from Washington,” Antonov said in an interview with Russia-24 television. “This is a huge amount, it does not help the search for a diplomatic solution, the regulation of the situation,” the ambassador added. “Have we given a note – yes, we have emphasized the unacceptability of the situation,” he said, adding that Russia had asked for an end to the practice.
The United States is “trying to raise the stakes even more and exacerbate the situation,” according to Antonov. “The task is not to allow, as US senators openly say, Russia to stand on its own two feet, Russian interests to be respected in the world, Russia’s voice to be heard,” the diplomat added.
