Putin ordered Russian troops to withdraw from the Kyiv region as a “gesture of goodwill” to create “favorable conditions for Russian-Ukrainian talks.” This was stated by Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov in an interview with the French television channel LCI.
“Everything was made public if you follow the statements of Fomin (former Deputy Minister of Defense of Russia Alexander Fomin). “There was an order to significantly reduce military activity around Kyiv and Chernihiv in order to create conditions for those who make important decisions for negotiations,” Peskov said in response to a question about how the withdrawal of troops came about and when it actually took place. it started. In the last round of peace talks, the two delegations agreed to significantly reduce the “military activity” of the Russian army in the Kyiv and Chernihiv regions.
Peskov stressed that the withdrawal plan was well thought out. According to several sources, including NATO and the Pentagon, Russian troops continue to move to Donbas.
Asked what was coming in Donbas, Peskov replied with the council to seek information from the Russian Ministry of Defense.
Russia and Ukraine exchanged 86 prisoners of war
Moscow and Kyiv have exchanged prisoners of war in the format of 86 Ukrainians for 86 Russians, said Russian Ombudsman Tatiana Moskalkova, quoted by TASS.
The exchange list also included four employees of Rosatom, the corporation that develops nuclear energy and the nuclear weapons complex in Russia. At the last moment, however, their exchange was canceled.
The first prisoner-of-war exchange between Russia and Ukraine took place on March 21, when the mayor of the nearly destroyed Melitopol, Ivan Fedorov, was released in exchange for nine Russian servicemen.
Earlier today, Moskalkova announced that she was checking data for a list that includes Crimean officers who are not subject to exchange. She doubted that they might be sentenced to death. The ombudsman said that the results of the inquiry should be presented to the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights and the Council of Europe’s Commissioner for Human Rights so that the whole world can “know the truth”.
