Reports of more than 16,000 missing Ukrainians have been submitted by their relatives and friends to the hotline of the Verkhovna Rada Commissioner for Human Rights in Ukraine.
More than 16.6 thousand requests have been submitted for the search for missing people, more than 2 thousand of them children, said the Ombudsman of Ukraine Lyudmila Denisova on his channel Telegram, BGNES reported.
Denisova provided information on the missing citizens to the Council of Europe Commissioner for Human Rights Dunja Mijatović, who is on a four-day visit to Ukraine.
To address the issue, the Ombudsman proposes, together with representatives of the International Commission on Missing Persons, to implement a common mechanism for tracing missing persons.
The Commissioner for Human Rights notes that her presence in Ukraine demonstrates the EU’s solidarity with Ukraine. Mijatović visited cities liberated by Russian troops in the Kyiv region.
After his visit, Mijatović will report on what he saw in the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe.

A group of Iraqi tourists has disappeared in Moscow
38 tourists from Iraq have disappeared in Moscow, Baza Telegram reported on Wednesday (May 4th).
The press service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia reported in the channel “Moslenta” responsible for Moscow that at the time of publication of the material in the department no official information was received about this incident.
According to the channel, an employee of a travel company addressed the police with a statement. According to the guide, Iraqi families have landed in Moscow as tourists. Their visit included several excursions. At the same time, the personal documents of the tourists had to remain with the guide.
Baza reports that the day after their arrival, the Iraqis stayed at the hotel and did not go on excursions due to fatigue. Later, with all available means, they tried to get their documents, but failed and left the hotel without them, reports Lenta ru.
The travel agency suspects that the real purpose of the tourist visit is an attempt to obtain refugee status and stay in Russia.
Earlier, a man left jewelry for millions of dollars to his girlfriend in a pawnshop and disappeared without a trace, Lenta.ru writes.
